A new kind of consensus
Bitcoin proved value through Work. Ethereum secured networks through Stake. Seedlings introduces something different: Proof of Care, the idea that consistent, genuine attention creates real, verifiable value.
Every NFC scan is a moment of presence, you stop, you remember, you acknowledge. The 24-hour cooldown mirrors natural cycles: growth requires daily rhythm, not constant input. The physical card becomes a living ledger of care, its history written in scans and sealed in a snap.
"Long ago, seeds fell from a dying world, a world that withered not from war, but from disconnection. They came to Earth seeking those who still understood the power of paying attention."
The Three Dimensions
Each Seedlings card exists simultaneously in three states:
The NFC Card, A premium collectible embedded with a BrandGuard NTAG 424 DNA TT chip. Cryptographically secured. Tamper-evident. The physical proof that your Seedling exists in the real world.
On-Chain Growth, Every scan is recorded. Stage progression tracked. A transparent, immutable record of your care on Hedera Hashgraph.
The Bond, The quantum entanglement between Guardian and Seedling. Something that can't be coded or bought. Only grown, over time, through consistent return.
Different generations, different souls
Seedlings arrived in waves. Each era carries a different mission, aesthetic, and growth dynamic. The era of your card shapes its personality, and its story.
The eldest souls. Sent first to test if Earth was safe. Emotional, empathetic, deeply loyal. Deep earth tones, ancient textures, weathered wisdom.
Sent to protect. Warriors and defenders, capable of fierce loyalty and great gentleness. Sleek angular forms, metallic accents. Grows ~1.5ร faster.
Wild cards. Unique gifts: time manipulation, phasing, precognition. Iridescent, crystalline, ethereal. Unpredictable growth. Irreplaceable, each one.
Not a hierarchy, different frequencies
Material represents the soul's fundamental frequency. Paper is not lesser than Palladium, it is simply a different kind of being, a different relationship, a different story. What changes is the depth of commitment required.
The cycle model
Every card progresses through material cycles, each cycle containing 5 stages. The number of cycles depends on material. Stage progression is based on scan count. Cooldown: 24 hours fixed (with a 12-hour grace buffer, scan window open 24, 36h after last scan).
The Five Stages
| Stage | Meaning | Key Moment |
|---|---|---|
| ๐ซ Seed | Mystery / Metamorphosis | First cycle: identity hidden. Later cycles: transformation cocoon. |
| ๐ฑ Seedling | Awakening | First cycle: Reveal, character and clan shown for the first time. |
| ๐ฟ Sprout | The Journey | Longest stage. Personality develops through material's lens. |
| ๐ธ Bloom | Expression | Full form visible in this material. Beauty in its own way. |
| ๐ณ Mature | Choice | Cycle complete. Choose 1 of 4 stages as NFT. Others disappear forever. |
Material Essence Through Cycles
Each cycle carries the essence of a different material. A Palladium card doesn't always look like Palladium, it begins in Paper's warmth and progressively takes on its true sovereign form:
Paper-Palladium โ Polymer-Palladium โ Steel-Palladium โ Silver-Palladium โ Gold-Palladium โ Pure Palladium
Scan Thresholds (SSOT v2.3, 24h cooldown)
| Material | Scans/Cycle | Total Cycles | Total Scans | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Paper | 182 | 1 | 182 | ~6 months |
| Polymer | 182 | 2 | 364 | ~1 year |
| Steel | 182 | 3 | 546 | ~1.5 years |
| Silver | 182 | 4 | 728 | ~2 years |
| Gold | 182 | 5 | 910 | ~2.5 years |
| Palladium | 182 | 6 | 1,092 | ~3 years |
Emergent rarity through choice
Scarcity in Seedlings isn't artificial. It's born from decisions. At the end of every cycle, you choose 1 of 4 stages to become an NFT. The other three vanish permanently. No one can predict which stages will be chosen across the entire collection, making each NFT's rarity a living mystery.
The Choice, End of Each Cycle
Among Era 1 cards exists The Capsule, the sole keeper of all knowledge from the lost world. One per planet. Unlike any other Seedling, The Capsule can speak in full sentences from Seedling stage onward. It was sealed with everything worth remembering before the old world ended, sent across the cosmos like a message in a bottle. As it grows, its memories surface. At Mature stage it remembers everything, and speaks it all. Its NFT is among the rarest in the entire ecosystem. You will know it if you find it.
NFT Production, Genesis 66

Snap-to-Mint
The last cycle of every card ends with an irreversible act: the Snap. Physically breaking the perforated tab severs the NFC tamper loop. The chip reports TTStatus: OO. The card's story is sealed.
This is not destruction. It is transformation, the moment the physical yields to let the digital become permanent. The final cycle's NFT selection activates.
An early snap is always possible. You sacrifice future cycles and NFT choices.
Physical-digital bridge
The NFC chip is not decoration. It is the cryptographic anchor that makes every claim verifiable.
NFC Authentication, NTAG 424 DNA TT
Each card carries a BrandGuard NTAG 424 DNA TT chip with Secure Dynamic Messaging (SDM). Every tap generates a unique, cryptographically signed URL:
seedlings.world/tap.html?e=[PICCENCData]&tt=[TTStatus]&c=[CMAC]
The backend decrypts PICCENCData (AES-128-CBC) to extract the chip UID and ReadCounter, then verifies the CMAC (AES-CMAC RFC 4493). No database lookup needed to detect a fake tap, cryptography does it before anything else runs.
TagTamper, The Snap Signal
The built-in tamper loop reports its state in every scan. TTStatus: CC = both loops closed, card intact. TTStatus: OO = loop broken, card snapped. This is hardware-level proof, it cannot be faked without destroying the chip entirely.
Blockchain, Hedera Hashgraph
Hedera provides near-zero transaction fees (<$0.001), 3-second finality, and carbon-negative consensus. All scan events, snap events, and NFT mints are logged to HCS Topic 0.0.7557733, publicly verifiable, permanently immutable.
66 cards. One chance.
The Genesis collection establishes the foundation. 66 player cards across all 6 materials, 119 unique characters, 5 clans, 3 eras. Plus the Origin Four, 4 physical collectible cards included as gifts with orders. These are narrative artifacts, not NFC game cards, they carry no cycles, no blockchain interaction. They exist to tell the story of where Seedlings came from.

This document is informational only and is not investment advice. The economic model is in active development and subject to change before Genesis launch. Nothing here is an offer of securities or financial instruments. Consult qualified legal counsel before participating.
Data & Privacy (GDPR)
The Seedlings platform collects and processes limited personal data necessary for ecosystem operation: email addresses for wallet verification, Hedera wallet addresses linked to cards, and anonymised scan metadata (IP hash, approximate location at city level for relay-attack detection). All data is processed in accordance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Data is stored on Supabase infrastructure with appropriate security measures. Users have the right to access, correct, and request deletion of their personal data by contacting the project at the address listed on seedlings.world. Scan events and snap events are additionally recorded to a public Hedera Consensus Service topic, this on-chain data is permanent and cannot be deleted.
Jurisdiction
This project is operated by an individual based in Finland. To the extent any legal dispute arises, Finnish law applies and the courts of Finland have jurisdiction, unless mandatory local law in a participant's jurisdiction provides otherwise.
What could go wrong
Seedlings is built with transparency as a core value. The project's principal paradox: to prove care is real, the creator must relinquish control.
Execution risk. This is a small team. Progress depends on consistent effort. If physical production slows or technical issues arise, timelines shift. No artificial deadlines will be set to compensate.
Adoption risk. A card that sits in a drawer doesn't grow. The model only works if people actually scan. Community building is as critical as technical correctness.
Regulatory risk. The digital-asset and NFT landscape is evolving and its regulatory treatment remains uncertain. No guarantees can be made.
"Joonas is the gardener who has given up the power to change the rules, but still controls which seeds get planted."
